John was someone who I feel both grateful and privileged to have known. I often felt that life had not been very kind to him, but he achieved some remarkable things, and in the process enriched many peoples' lives. He was responsible for many of my most enjoyable and memorable musical experiences, including Granger at Up Ottery, Brahms and Orff in Blundell's Hall, and Gallery Carols in St Peter's. While I was listening to the radio on Saturday morning, an extract from Bach's BWV 21 (Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis) came on, and I was immediately transported back to the Sunday session in St Andrew Street when we recorded part of it for the Inegales website.
